2016 marks the 100th Anniversary of the National Park Service.  We had planned to visit a number of national parks out west this past summer but circumstances intervened and instead we spent the summer in the Appalachians.  We were disappointed at first, but now wouldn’t change a thing.  We had a wonderful time during the 5-1/2 months we spent in North Carolina and Tennessee with a few trips just across the state line into Virginia.  Initially, I had determined that I wanted to design a quilted wallhanging spotlighting the western parks.   But I had to rethink my design using Smoky Mountain Natl. Park and The Blue Ridge Natl. Parkway, both under the auspices of the Natl. Park Service.  We spent a lot of time exploring both in depth.  As we traveled about, I got the idea of collecting small items representative of the Appalachians to embellish my quilt.  Many were made by local craftsmen.  This week I finished my “Appalachian Adventure” quilted wallhanging that embodies happy memories of the mystical Blue Ridge Mountains of Appalachia.  For anyone that would like to take a more in depth look at the wall hanging, you can go my Pinterest board:  https://www.pinterest.com/jimcope/needle-arts-by-jo/
