STILL THERE AFTER ALL THESE YEARS

10-12-16-b

The Greeneville Cumberland Presbyterian Church was built in 1860 on land purchased from Andrew Johnson, the 17th President of the United States.  It was shelled on Sept. 4, 1864 when Union troops entered the town for the purpose of capturing General John Morgan of the Confederacy.  A cannonball still remains stuck in the front wall of the church after all these years.  It is visible just above the light fixture to the right of the front door.
