This is the historic Dickson-Williams Mansion in Greeneville, TN.  Greeneville, named after Revolutionary War hero Nathanael Green, lies in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains.  Scotch-Irish pioneers founded the town in 1783 at the juncture of two Indian trails where Big Spring was located.  The town had strong ties to both the Union and Confederacy in the Civil War.  The Williams family was a perfect example of this, having family members enlisted on both sides.  Catherine Williams was a famous Greeneville hostess and entertained troops of both armies whenever they were in town.  General John Morgan of the Confederacy was captured and killed by Union troops while visiting at the mansion.
